If you only grow one herb, make it Genovese basil. This is the classic Italian variety with big, tender, aromatic leaves that make the best pesto and the finest caprese salad. We raise our basil in the greenhouse without synthetic pesticides, and it arrives in a 4" pot ready to be moved to a sunny patio or a bright kitchen window. Pinch off the top sets of leaves regularly to keep it bushy and to delay flowering. Give it warmth, light, and steady moisture, and you will be harvesting for months. Basil is considered safe for cats and dogs.
