A living fossil with a sculptural, symmetrical crown of stiff, glossy fronds, the sago palm brings a bold, prehistoric look to a bright room. It is technically a cycad rather than a true palm, and it grows slowly, so the size you buy is the size you will enjoy for years. Give it bright light, a gritty, fast-draining mix, and restrained watering. Please note that every part of the sago palm, especially the seeds, is highly toxic to cats and dogs, so it is best placed where pets cannot reach it, or skipped entirely in a pet household.
