The parlor palm has been a Victorian favorite for well over a century because it simply keeps going in conditions that defeat fussier plants. Slender green canes carry arching, feathery fronds that bring a soft, tropical feel to a dim corner or a bookshelf. It tolerates low light better than nearly any other palm and stays a manageable size for apartments. Ours are multi-stem clumps grown from seed, so they look full from day one. Non-toxic to cats and dogs, it is also one of the most relaxed choices for beginners and for households with four-legged roommates.
